The Story:
In a high stakes 5 day production, Minto Studios executed a commercial photography project to modernise the visual identity of The American Club (Singapore) for a major 2026 rebrand. Led by Principal Photographer Lionel Heng and Creative Director Greg Rawson, the project delivered a large number of retouched assets for use across web, app, and digital marketing. This case study explores how to manage large scale logistical complexity, innovative split-water photography, and production in a live member environment without the typical headaches or high overhead costs.
The Vision: At Home in Every Moment
For nearly 80 years, The American Club has been defined by its mission to be a Home Away From Home for its members. Taking on a rebranding project for such a legacy institution can feel like an impossible logistical puzzle. To ground the project, our Creative Director, Greg Rawson, established a North Star: At Home in Every Moment. This concept was the filter for every decision we made. It ensured that whether we were shooting a high-end dinner or a trip to the laundry facilities, the final image felt accessible, premium, and welcoming.
Managing Complexity Without the Headache
Creating a visual library of a large number of retouched assets often sounds tedious and expensive to marketing leads. However, the secret to a smooth production isn't a bigger budget; it is better planning. Minto Studios acted as an integrated partner to ensure the 5-day shoot didn't disrupt the Club's daily operations.
We dedicated a full day to a recce to walk every equipment route. In a 78-year-old building with 24-hour member activity, knowing exactly which stairs to climb and which corners to avoid meant we stayed invisible. Good planning protects a brand’s reputation while the cameras are rolling.
Technical Innovation: The Split-Water Fish Tank Technique
A standout challenge of the production was capturing the energy of the competition pool while showcasing the Club’s architecture. To achieve a "half-in, half-out" waterline shot without the high cost of specialised underwater housing, we used a $120 crystal-clear fish tank.
To capture high-end style waterline photography, using a fish tank tilted helped us to align focal points and light refraction. This allowed for a sharp definition between the underwater action and the background architecture. This solution, executed with the technical crew from Stills Network, proves that technical ingenuity can replace expensive rentals to achieve premium results.

Flexibility as a Production Strategy
Managing a production of this scale requires certainly required us to be calm under pressure. We remained open to the spontaneous moments that a rigid script might miss. When a young member showed interest in the shoot, we invited her to be part of the scene. Her natural curiosity became one of the most authentic representations of the Club's community in the entire asset library.
The Scope: A City Within a City
The 5-day shoot covered the full breadth of the Club’s facilities, organized into four key pillars:

Culinary Excellence
Award winning outlets including The 2nd Floor, Tradewinds, Union Bar, Grillhouse, The Central, Tiki Bar, and the Wine Pantry.

Family & Youth
Indoor playgrounds, arcades, and dedicated studios for the Taekwondo class and dance programs.

Wellness & Lifestyle
The Library, the co-working space, and the full-service sên Spa. This also included essential member services like the laundry facilities and Essentials (the in-house convenience store).

Sports & Leisure
Multi-purpose court, pickleball, tennis, and squash courts, the Gym, and the bowling alleys.
Conclusion
Our media services relationship between Minto Studios and The American Club demonstrates the value of a long-term strategic partnership.
